Well here it is, September, and much to my dismay I’ve already heard people talking about how there are only three months until Christmas. First I must say that I am grieved that this season, in its current form, has usurped “Our dear Saviors birth” and turned it in to what it now is. Still I must admit that I am thankful that I am at liberty to participate in the tradition, and that just how far I let the hassle of the season overtake me is solely up to me. Personally I do attempt to make it a sincere time and add as much sentimentality to it as I can.
Having said this I will now add my advertisement to the mix. I do this to help those who, like me, have people on their list who are difficult to buy for. Let’s face it there are those in this world who seem to be quite satisfied with what they have, or are set in their ways to the extent that causes us to feel awkward to buy something for them that we know will be “lackluster” in their eyes for whatever reason.
Here is the help I have to offer. Give them something that they already have, only prettier. Or give them something unique. “What do you mean”, you ask. Of course my reply is “beautify something they already own” by having it refinished. Or give them something personalized.
Refinishing doesn’t refer to furniture only. It could be one of many things. The only criteria that need to be met is that the object is made of wood. It could be a jewelry box, clock, old toy, doll cradle, plant stand, wine rack, picture frame…the list goes on and on. The idea is to give them something that they will truly appreciate, and you know they will because they already do. Or perhaps you are looking for something to pass down to a loved one but it isn’t in the shape you’d like it to be in for a gift. Have it restored. You will accomplish two things. You will be giving a gift that has a part of you attached to it, and insuring that it will be appreciated for a long time to come. Who knows? It may even be passed down again with the story of who gave it. That my friend is worth much more than the disposable stuff that will fill the stores, cars, and living rooms of the world this Christmas only to be consumed or disposed of in a short while.
One other thing worth mentioning here is the “unique” gift that was mentioned earlier. Find that article that causes you to immediately think of someone when you see it at a yard sale (as September brings the close to them). Bring it to us to restore and perhaps add that special flare that would look just right. You will give more than a “run of the mill” Christmas gift. You will give a, one of a kind, specialty item along with a fond memory of you that again, will last for a long while. Please feel free to contact us for ideas on how to personalize a gift for that special someone if you get stuck. We are full of ideas, and enjoy doing things “out of the box”.
Well I got through this without feeling too cheapened by jumping on the advertising band wagon. I hope you will consider giving the gift of yourself this Christmas in some way. That, after all, is what the original Christmas was all about.
